Overall Rating: 6 out of 10
In a cloudy midweek morning, I arrived in Makati earlier than wanted. I looked for a place to eat good breakfast and drink coffee at 6:30 am. And as I drop off my UV Express in Paseo De Roxas, I stumbled upon a familiar cafĂ© – a Tim Hortons.
So I choose to spend my time in
this branch. Though the exterior looked unusually dark and plain, I expected
this branch to have the usual bright ambiance that most Tim Hortons branches
had. This branch, however, gave me something different. It shocked me with its
high ceiling matched with rustic walls with simple decor, yet creates an
atmosphere of warmth. In a corner they had a tower-like area that looks grand
and impressive.
As for its menu, typical Tim
Hortons' menu remain, but it shocked me to see they offered cakes. I then
ordered my favorite, their famous (12 oz) Double Double (Php 90) matched with a
Maple Cheesecake (Php 165). It was my first time to try their cakes, as I have
already tried before most of their offerings – bagels, donuts, and sandwiches.
I truly missed Double Double
since it has been about half a year since the last time I ordered it. The
acidic and strong coffee calmed by right amount of cream and sugar in addition
to its cheap price compared to average coffee shop price. Then I tried their
cheesecake which sadly did not meet my expectations. Despite the maple label, it
smelled only a hint and the taste of it almost never existed. In the end, it
did not satisfied me considering also its price of P 165 that would have got me
better cakes in other cafes and bakeries.
In the end, I saw my breakfast in
this Tim Hortons' branch decent. Though I should have stayed with their bagel
with cream cheese, the unique atmosphere of this branch with the traditional
satisfying Double Double made the experience gratifying.
