Being in the one of the most expensive areas in the Philippines, price must also deliver quality and Yardstick coffee failed to disappoint as their cost indeed gives excellent quality.
Yardstick Coffee laid innocently in the street of Esteban in Legaspi Village, Makati. Outside, it had no big sign or any signal to passers by of a coffee shop existing - only a conspicuous Y symbol in the top right of the door way.
Inside, Yardstick avoids the grand and posh ambiance of a usual coffee shop - no big sofas or leather chairs or exquisite wooden large tables fit for an expensive dinner party. Rather it has a simple, cool, hip, and fresh ambiance. Simple stools with simple tables. Simple wall and floors. Uniquely, they never tucked all of their preparation table behind their registry counter, but they several tables where is one for the espresso machine and another for their pour over coffee. As if they invite their customers to see their coffee being prepared.
For their menu, forget a straight forward line up of espresso base drinks as they offer special items made uniquely by them such as Naughty Matcha, Vanilla Flat White, Dirty Chai, Black Magic, etc. They also had their own line up of cold brews and for those who wanted to unwind after work, beer. To go with drinks comes their food menu, this included rice meals toast, and their instagramable waffles.

Salted Caramel Waffle and a pot of Kii AB
I ended up ordering their single origin coffee, in particular a cup of pour over Kii AB from Kenya (P 210), and a nice fresh Salted Caramel Waffle (P 230). Just a caution, prices are exclusive of 6% service charge.

Fresh pour over coffee
Their Kii AB coffee comes in a small tray with a small cup and a pot of fresh pour over coffee. A tag describes the beans and the taste notes that comes with the beans. In a sip of the coffee, notes of fuji apple as written from the tag dominated. A just right acidic taste made it light, smooth, and fresh. A relaxing and awakening start for a long day.

Salted Caramel Waffles
On the other hand, the Salted Caramel Waffle excited me. Indeed, the beautiful platting of the waffle invites anyone to take a shot and post it on their social media. More than bragging in Instagram, it makes mouth water. Huge thick pieces of waffles topped with scoops of ice cream and sprinkled with sliced almonds in addition to salted caramel sauce. I feared the waffle to be very sweet for obvious reasons, but it went in vain. In one bite of the hearty waffle with smeared with melting ice cream, satisfaction went into my mouth. Sweetness was just right and the waffle's thick and crisp texture blended well with the creaminess of their ice cream. Every bite was a heaven in the mouth. Forget SB's waffles, Yardstick's waffle beats expectations.
By my breakfast's end, despite spending near to half a thousand pesos (instant petsa de peligro). Yardstick provides an excellent experience both in the ambiance of their place and extraordinary food and coffee. A coffee dependent who wanted a reward for long days of work? Here is a place you can go.
