Gangnam Style Coffee: Coffeesmith

A coffee chain from Korea, Coffeesmith arrived in the Philippines as part of its expansion to Southeast Asia along with Singapore. With a neat modern style and numerous food and drinks to choose, Coffeesmith is a new place to check in the South.

Luckily for those in the South, a taste of Korean coffee culture is now available as Coffeesmith is located in Festival Mall in Muntinlupa. Its interior looks modern and chic with the contrasting color of black and light colors as well as elements of steel and stone.

Coffeesmith has a very extensive menu. They offer pastas, sandwiches, bingsu, in addition to pastries and waffles in their display cabinet. I tried their Cafe Vienna (Php 170), Cappuccino Waffles (Php 290), and their Midnight Dark Tart (Php 155) that is placed in their display case.

Cafe Vienna & Midnight Dark Tart

Their Cafe Vienna came out very presentable looking very luscious with the whipped cream on top. It was alright - a nice hot drink to sip while studying, writing, etc.

On the other hand, their Midnight Dark Tart felt truly rich and chocolaty like a soft gooey brownie. However, I think the cocoa powder on top was interrupting the smoothness of the chocolate filing giving a grainy feeling in the mouth. The powder made it feel like eating an espasol.

Cappuccino Waffle

Finally, the Cappuccino Waffle arrived with a generous serving - in  big plate with very thick waffles and scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream drizzled with chocolate and strawberry syrup. To be honest, I cannot taste the cappuccino, but it was alright and can be overlooked as it remained exciting to eat. The experience was enjoyable for experimenting for various combination of different ingredients. The strawberry syrup, however, seemed out of place providing a distracting sour fruity taste in the waffle. Nonetheless, their waffles remains a must try.

Coffeesmith is a nice addition to the list of cafes to be visited in the South. Not to mention it gives a window to the cafe culture of Korea. They have nice classy place to hang out and a wide variety of food and drinks to try. Despite some distractions in my experience, their vast array convince me to comeback.
